Field’s Lease Overview: Physical and Biological

Original Purpose: To protect a small example of the antelope brush community, the most arid shrub-steppe ecosystem in Canada Physical: Rocky knolls thinly covered with sandy soil form the central axis of this reserve. These are bordered by sandy flats on their west and south sides, and a steep northeast-facing slope along the northeast boundary.

The Osoyos Arid Biotic Area

G.G.E. Scudder of the Dept of Zoology, UBC The Osoyoos-arid Biotic Area has a distinctive faunal assemblege found nowhere else in Canada. Some of the species are found nowhere else in British Columbia. While they may not all be endangered, that they occur to the south, the populations in BC are peripheral ones. See the
