Skagit River Rhododendrons Ecological Reserve was established to preserve stands of the rare Pacific rhododendron in a site unlikely to be disturbed by recreational use.

Skagit Valley Recreation Area includes four ecological reserves:
- ER 21 – douglas fir forest
- ER 22 – ponderosa pine
- ER 89 – cottonwood stands
- ER 106 – pacific rhododendrons
