Tacheeda Lakes Ecological Reserve (ER # 41) Purpose Statement

Tacheeda Lakes Ecological Reserve is located 80 kilometers north of Prince George, 2.5 kilometers southeast of Tacheeda Lakes. The ecological reserve is 526 hectares in size, and protects mature forest ecosystems representative of the Sub-Boreal Spruce wet cool Willow (SBS wk1) biogeoclimatic subzone variant and its transition with the Engelmann Spruce- Subalpine Fir Zone. Forest stands are dominated by white spruce, and small areas at higher elevations support subalpine forest vegetation.

The ecological reserve lies in an area of rolling wooded hills between the Parsnip and Crooked rivers, and includes the southwestern slopes of Tacheeda Mountain. There is one small lake, a wetland, and a few small scattered bogs within the ecological reserve.

Primary Role

The primary role of Tacheeda Lakes Ecological Reserve is to protect the mature forest ecosystems representative of the wet cool Sub-Boreal Spruce subzone and its transition with the Engelmann Spruce-Subalpine Fir Zone. Some good size Douglas-fir trees occur here close to their northern limits in these longitudes.
